AGM 2024 Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway Saturday 18th May

Join us for our Annual General Meeting 2024, which this year is going to be held at New Romney on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.


An optional  buffet lunch and trip on ride Peak Rail is also available, in addition to the AGM.


Opened in 1927, the railway is 15” / 385mm narrow gauge railway extending some 13 ½ miles from Cinque Port town of Hythe to Dungeness a Natural Nature Reserve on a shingle beach, dominated by the nuclear power station and lighthouses.  There will be an opportunity to ride the whole line at the on the day of the AGM.


We will start our journey travelling from Hythe to New Romney were the AGM will be held in the conservatory.  After the AGM there will be a buffet lunch and plenty of time to see the railway attractions at New Romney station including a guided tour of the heritage centre and extensive model railway.  We will then join a train for the thirty minute ride to Dungerness.  There will be time at Dungerness for a quick walk around or for refreshment in the station tea room before departing by train for the hour and a bit journey back to Hythe.

This is an educational visit, so those members with protected (safeguarded) travel facilities can apply for an educational free pass.

The free pass ticket should be from your home station to Folkestone West

Rail Tickets for those without an Educational Free Pass or ‘Priv’ Facilities

The cheapest tickets at the time of writing (early March 2024) are advance singles:  

With a valid railcard these tickets will be £10.20 each way, though note not with a Network Railcard.  As advance tickets, these are quota-controlled, so early booking is recommended before they sell out and note that these tickets are only valid on the booked train.

We could not find any cheaper fares from London with split-tickets.

Book at: South Eastern or other train operator site.  

DO NOT use thetrainline or other similar third party sites as you will pay more as these sites charge booking fees, which National Rail Train Operator websites do not charge, and the revenue for the commission for selling the ticket will be lost to UK railways.

Cost

For the AGM, buffet and return journey from Hythe to Dungerness on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway  South the price is £24.50 per person.


The bus journey from Folkestone West and return is not included.  The UK bus maximum fare cap is £2.00 for a single journey (so £4 for return), or free with a bus pass for those over 60.


It is also to possible to attend the AGM only (make your own way to New Romney with no buffet, for free.

Return Travel (including train times for those travelling to London)

The AGM will be held in the conservatory and commence at 12.15 and conclude by 13.15 in-accordance with the Institution Rules

A cold buffet lunch will then follow.  There will be the then be an opportunity for guided tour of the Heritage Centre and Model Railway before rejoining the train for a journey to Dungenress and back to Hythe.
